No matter how successful someone may seem from the outside, all of us have our own internal battles. During the earlier years of Anthony Hopkins’ career, he found himself in his own battle with alcohol addiction.
Anthony’s dependency began “innocently.” He adopted a worldly state of mind and drank due to the fact that “that’s what you carry out in theater, you drink
.”However as is the case frequently, the social leisure activity quickly took control of his life. By 1975, Anthony’s drinking had spiraled out of control.
“I was hell-bent on damage,” the award-winning star remembered.”It was like being had by a devil, an addiction, and I could not stop. And there are countless people around like that.” It’s in our weakest minutes that God’s strength works best!
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and conserves those who are squashed in spirit.” ~ Psalm 34:18 Anthony Hopkins Statement Of God’s Saving Grace
“Why don’t you simply rely on God?”
It’s not something Anthony had ever tried. But as desperate as he was, he believed, “Well, why not?” Choosing to believe and trust in God was the minute whatever changed for the desperate star.
“I might not stop [drinking], however I simply requested for a bit of assistance and unexpectedly, pow. It was much like, bingo,” Anthony Hopkins remembered. Amazingly, Anthony says the craving to drink was drawn from him,”never ever to return once again.”And he’s thought in God ever since, working day after day, every year, to grow in his faith.
When asked in a CNN interview with Piers Morgan if he believed in God, former-atheist Anthony Hopkins replied wholeheartedly,”
Yes, I do. I do.”Anthony Hopkins Shares Faith With Younger Generation
Years after discovering faith, Anthony Hopkins is related to as among the best actors of our time. He earned the title of Sir Anthony Hopkins when Queen Elizabeth knighted him in 1993, for his contributions to the carrying out arts.
As such a well-regarded actor, Anthony was invited to talk to a crowd of almost 500 high school and university student at the yearly Leadership, Excellence and Accelerating Your Possible conference (LEAP). And he showed them the threats of validating to the world.
“If you chase after the cash, it’s not gon na work. And if you chase after success, it’s not gon na work,” he stated. In fact, in a different interview, Anthony opened about how unfulfilling success alone is.
“You know, I fulfill young individuals, and they wish to act and they want to be well-known,” the well-known star explained. “And I inform them, when you succeed of the tree, there’s nothing up there. Most of this is nonsense, the majority of this is a lie. Accept life as it is. Just be grateful to be alive.”
Former Atheist Anthony Hopkins Can’t Live That Method Any Longer
After sharing how he was conserved from the depths of alcohol addiction, Anthony Hopkins explained the power our words and our beliefs have more than our lives. He also touched on how God can utilize anything, even our greatest messes, for good.
“I believe that we can a lot,” Anthony stated to the students. “From my own life, I still can not believe that my life is what it is since I should have passed away in Wales, intoxicated or something like that. … We can talk ourselves into death or we can talk ourselves into the very best life we have actually ever lived. None of it was an error. It was all a fate.”
While Anthony Hopkins has, sometimes, played characters who are genuinely wicked, the star lives out his reality with Christ in his heart. He’s been an atheist prior to finding God and now he just pities atheists, comparing a life of shock to “residing in a closed cell without any windows.”
“I ‘d dislike to have to live like that, would not you?” Anthony Hopkins asked.
What a beautiful reminder the Anthony Hopkins testament was of the hope we have through Jesus!
