Wow…what a week! Certainly some huge stories to come across our electronic desks. Here are my thoughts on three of them.
The government ends the shutdown
Not that they should be cheered for this since it was Congress’ fault that we shut down in the first place. Still, it was good that they reached an agreement to reopen the government – even if it is still temporarily. My hope and prayer is that these guys would grow up and learn to work together despite their differences – something we here at the LIGHT! strive to do (imperfectly as well but hopefully better than Congress!
Trump at Davos
Trump mixed fact and fiction at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He took credit for everything good and blamed others for everything bad – even if he clearly was not the cause of the former (surprise, surprise!). Reaction from the other world leaders was mixed but better than I expected. I hope Americans (and other people’s who hear Trump speak) will think critically about the words that come out of Donald Trump’s mouth.
The conviction of Dr. Larry Nassar
This was probably the most moving story for me this week. Such powerful testimonies from the young victims the doctor had molested! We certainly feel for them, laud them for their courage and pray for their continued healing and recovery! I do have a concern (which may make some of you hate me) with all of the #MeToo accusations flying around. I am totally confused as to where the line is on some of these other accusations (NOT confused about what Dr. Nassar did). If you hug people and they don’t like it is it wrong? What if you didn’t know but stopped after you found out they didn’t like it? What if you wanted to kiss a girl but then saw she didn’t want to kiss you and you stopped out of respect for her wishes. Is that good or bad? I do agree with Sheryl Sandberg from FaceBook in that organizations will have to be more clear going forward otherwise men will completely pull away from women.
