We are proud to announce that we have partnered with Eisenhower High School to serve as one of the key sponsors for their newly formed, “IKE Care Club,” dedicated to volunteerism and providing caring, community service both locally and far-away (whatever can be done to “be neighborly.”
In talking with the young people we were excited because they were excited about causes that we care about so much:
- fighting food inequality with their annual drive to pack food for starving third-world children
- helping those who have faced catastrophe financially, physically, emotionally as evidenced by their work to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey (you might call this, “basic needs inequality”)
- participating with us in learning more about economic inequality here in the US and how to address this at the local, state and national levels
Jesus fought against inequality nearly all his adult life and became a champion for women, the poor, other races, “sinners,” etc., defending them from the systemic bias they faced from the ruling religious elites. He was equally patient with them (e.g. his conversation with Nicodemus in John 3) as he was admonishing of them (Matt 12 and Matt 23).
We are glad to partner with these high school and middle school students right here in our local community who are committed to make a difference, just like Jesus did, for so many disadvantaged people facing “unequal” situations!
