The Senate released what their version of the historic American Healthcare Act would look like (draft form). Guess what?
It’s not good for us. It’s certainly not what Jesus would do.
Upon release of the Senate draft bill, the stock of United Healthcare, one of our largest health insurers in the US jumped up $2.71 (0.9% in one day). They weren’t the only ones. Aetna was up 0.6% and Anthem was up 0.7%, again, all in one day.
Not really sure how Mitch McConnell can say with a straight face that this bill is good for most Americans. I’m nearly certain it isn’t but am willing to wait for a non-partisan group like the CBO to see whether more or less people will be covered or not once they compete their analysis.
And, the argument that you don’t need to purchase health insurance because you don’t need it is completely perplexing. We ALL need health insurance! If you lose your job and get hit by a car or get cancer (none of which is out of the realm of possibility, even if you are a good worker, a good driver and live in a healthy fashion!), you are up a creek without a paddle unless you are rich enough to have large amounts of money to cover your medical costs!
So, don’t tell me “I’m so well off because I’m not forced to buy insurance I don’t need.”
Because I’m not.
This reminds me of Jesus. Whether we want Him or not, He will always be there for us to run to if we wish, even if it’s at the last minute. Unlike health insurance companies He won’t turn us away if we have pre-existing conditions. He welcomes us to make it a family plan – kids can get added for no additional charge. There are no lifetime caps, no loopholes or special clauses to drop us. Once we’ve signed up (and it’s quite affordable – we just have to ask) we’re in for life – we can’t ever lose it. His plan is unbeatable!
He sells a hell of a fire insurance plan as well =)
