Well, it’s been 100 days since Trump took office and what a 100 days it has been!
Reading my first sentence you have no idea where I’m going with this, do you? =)
Those of you who know me know my personal opinions of President Trump. While it’s not too hard to guess that he is not in the running for my all-time favorite president I try hard to keep an open, positive mind and one based on facts, logic and reason with as little pejoratives as possible.
On the positive side he is somewhat sticking to some of his campaign promises:
- Deportation
- Dakota pipeline
- Deregulation
I’m not saying those are the right policies by any means – only that he has striven to do what he said in those areas.
On the other hand he has also not kept many other campaign promises:
- Lock her up
- Muslim registry
- Restore the coal industry
Likewise, here, I’m not saying I thought these were good campaign promises, only that he hasn’t pursued these.
Also, I failed to mention the promises he made and tried to keep but couldn’t:
- Repeal and replace
- The Wall
- Dismiss climate change scientifically (OK, maybe he didn’t exactly promise this but you get my point)
Still, he did do one thing I admire which is send a strong message to Syria by launching those Tomahawk cruise missiles in the wake of Dictator Assad’s use of chemical weapons against his own people (even though his friend Sean Spicer totally dug a hole for himself when he incorrectly compared Assad negatively to Hitler in terms of “Hitler never used chemical gas against his own people” (what was Sean thinking? (although he did apologize later).
Like it or not, Trump is our elected president for now. (I won’t go into whether he is our duly elected president or not – we’ll wait and see on the whole Russia investigation). Even though he does many things which cause many of us to roll our eyeballs:
- Claim Obama wire-tapped him with no evidence
- Refuses to reveal his income tax returns
- Says he stands for the average American yet surrounds himself with billionaire businessmen /bankers / hedge-fund dudes who convince him to NOT push for them to have true fiduciary responsibility to their customers!
let’s just hope that our system of checks and balances will keep him from doing any further harm than he is capable of…
…except to North Korea perhaps?
Regardless of how I’m not much of a fan, God still asks us to pray for him as our President.
He certainly needs it!
