We had the privilege to have Lena attend the Town Hall that Jim Sensenbrenner, Congressman for our District, hosted this past Wednesday evening. Lots of questions about the Affordable Care Act (probably around 80% of the questions), mostly around how it benefitted people personally and how they would like it fixed and improved not repealed and replaced.
Congressman Sensenbrenner seemed committed to repeal and replace, however, in spite of all the testimony around its helpfulness for many of the people in attendance. He indicated that the ACA was in a “death spiral” and mentioned counties in Tennessee where there are no more insurers because they’ve not been able to make enough profit there.
The ACA definitely needs to be fixed but it is not in a death spiral according to certain studies. However, it could be damaged and neglected by the current administration and thus sabotaged which would be a shame to many who have come to rely on it.
Lena had her questions written out and ready to go. However, the Congressman ran out of time before getting to her. Either way, we at the LIGHT! are proud of her for getting ready to speak out on what we as good Americans (and conscientious believers who care about our community) should do to for the needy amongst us!
