God, I’m sick to my stomach. Please heal me. Better yet, please heal our country.

God, I’m sick to my stomach. Please heal me. Better yet, please heal our country.

Because President Trump sure isn’t going to.

In spite of all his promises.

For those of you who haven’t heard our President signed an executive order today that will begin, in a very practical (but not “legal”) manner, dismantling the Affordable Care Act.

The order allowed for insurance companies to offer plans that don’t provide for the “essential health benefits” established in the Affordable Care Act. They can offer them for a year at a time and not 3 months. They can screen away the folks with pre-existing conditions and the premise is that these plans will be cheaper.

Well, guess what? When they’re cheaper guess who will be the only ones buying them?

Healthy people.

And if healthy people are buying these new non-ACA plans then guess whose risk pool is starting to get unhealthier?

ACA plans.

And, if only non-healthy people are in ACA plans guess what will happen?

The ACA will collapse.

If only our people would understand the way insurance works. The greater the general population the more we can spread our risk out on insurance! By shrinking pools we are only hurting ourselves (well, the most vulnerable amongst ourselves. The rich will still be able to afford health care.

Feeling sick now?

If not, you soon will be.
