Ten years have passed since the Supreme Court decision in\u202fObergefell v. Hodges<\/em> made same-sex marriage legal across the United States. In that decade, nationwide support has steadily climbed, with roughly two-thirds of Americans\u2014and even more within many church communities\u2014now affirming marriage equality wfdd.org+11sdpb.org+11apnews.com+11<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Yet a number of evangelical groups remain firmly opposed to this shift. Just last month, during their annual convention in Dallas, the Southern Baptist Convention issued a resolution calling for Obergefell to be overturned, urging lawmakers to align legal definitions of marriage with their understanding of God\u2019s design for gender and family chron.com+3them.us+3theguardian.com+3<\/a>. Leaders from this gathering expressed commitment not only to engage lawmakers but also to influence cultural conversations and strategic legal efforts wfdd.org+5sdpb.org+5politico.com+5<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Importantly, these resolutions are non-binding\u2014but they signal that evangelical opposition remains vocal and organized, despite growing public support for marriage equality. Many faith leaders cite their influence from the success of overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022 and see a viable path forward .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
