How can any of us have gone through the day this week without seeing or hearing something about the vicious Supreme Court nomination right now? This is partisan politics at its worst!
And it’s tearing Americans apart.
America has a special place in this world as is blessed by God as the most powerful country in modern times
With great power though, comes great responsibility.
We are not acting very responsible. In addition to the ever-widening gap of inequality (which we should be able to control), the ever increasing danger of climate change (which Republicans and many Christians deny) we are seeing an ever-increasing partisan divide threaten us from within.
It is no longer that we are offense and defense on the same team. We are two completely different teams. Extreme rivals even.
Warring tribes.
This is one reason we support Unite America. Their mission to “bridge the growing partisan divide” and their approach to using “common sense to find common ground to solve common problems” really reminds me of what Jesus did.
- Jesus came to bridge the greatest divide of them all – between us and God.
- Unite America seeks to bridge a very large divide – that between the Right and the Left.
- Jesus came to seek and save the lost.
- Unite America arose to seek and save what was lost – civil discourse
- Jesus encouraged us to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves
- Unite America encourages us to give voice to the politically homeless.
We have a long road ahead of us to re-unify our country. I personally think it will take around a decade or so if Unite America’s plan is successful.
At that time then we can accelerate our efforts at the national level to address that which should be concerning to all of us who love Jesus – inequality. (We will, of course, continue our local efforts to address, one person at a time!)
Let us remember the words of our great “Pledge of Allegiance:”
I pledge allegiance
to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic
for which it stands
one Nation
under God
indivisible
with liberty and justice for all
Let those words and our faith ring true and be a shining light to the earthly and demonic forces who would seek to divide us!
